Underway!

Just a short update since this will be the last one until we get back. We did manage to leave Boot Key Harbor. It was much later than expected and not without drama and a couple moments of panic. We left the harbor around 3pm and made our way south on a run to Newfound Harbor.
The day was mostly spent listening to the sound of the diesel engine hum as we motored along hoping to make our port by nightfall. We managed to arrive early thanks to a light breeze behind us that let the jib tug us along every now and then. We dropped the hook, set the anchor, attached the snubber and got a great nights sleep.

Right now the problem is the weather forecast. Weather Undergrounds forecast would essentially ruin our trip and make it miserable, while the forecasts from Weather.com, Accuweather and a couple others show a favorable forecast. The only consistent is we will be getting hit throughout by squally conditions as band of thunderstorms roll through. So the decision is, go for the original route, or tuck away and have a wait and see attitude on the weather. Well if 4 out of 5 dentists agree on something, 4 out of 5 weathermen should be the same, I think we are going for it ;-)

Till then.......

  3. Because he is learning that cruisers use their engine 80% of the time because seldom does the wind agree with the schedule/time/destination you want to go to.
